Research progress of social cognitive deficits in patients with schizophrenia

  • In the most recent 20 years, cognitive psychologists have discovered that in addition to neurocogni-tive functions(including memory, attention, problem solving, etc.), human beings also possess relatively indepen-dent social cognitive functions.Social cognition plays a vital role in various social activities, including emotion perception, emotion regulation as well as judgment of social cues, and is essential for sustaining human social functions.Previous research using scale assessment or neuroimaging measures has confirmed that patients with schizophrenia show impairments across all the domains of social cognition, but the mechanisms of social cogni-tive deficits and effective treatment strategies are still in the exploratory stage.Further research is needed to ex-plore intervention methods to help schizophrenia patients regain their social cognitive functions.
